- All journal entries, formatted text, and writing session data are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework

- This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to use cloud-based AI summarization

- You control this data completely—delete the app, and it's gone

- Settings like timer duration preferences

- UI state (archive view toggle, etc.)

- Stored locally on your device only

**AI Summaries (Optional)**

- If you use the AI summarization feature, summaries are stored locally alongside your entries

- Summaries are generated either on-device (Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.4+) or via DeepSeek API (cloud-based)

Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit:

- ❌ Your name, email, or contact information

- ❌ Usage analytics or tracking data

- ❌ Location data

- ❌ Device identifiers for advertising

- ❌ Your writing content (except when you use cloud-based AI summarization)

- ❌ Backup copies of your entries

How We Use Your Data

### Local Processing Only

**Writing and Storage**

- All writing, editing, and storage happens entirely on your device

- No transmission to external servers

- You have complete control over your data

### AI Summarization Feature

We offer two AI summarization options:

**Option 1: On-Device Processing (Apple Intelligence - iOS 18.4+)**

- When available, we use Apple's on-device AI models

- Your text never leaves your device

- Processing happens locally with complete privacy

- No data is sent to external servers

**Option 2: Cloud-Based Processing (DeepSeek API)**

- If Apple Intelligence is unavailable, you can optionally use DeepSeek for AI summaries

- Only the specific entry text you choose to summarize is sent to DeepSeek's API

- DeepSeek processes the text and returns a summary

- We do not send your full archive—only individual entries you explicitly request to summarize

You control when and if AI summarization occurs. You can write without ever using this feature.

Third-Party Services

### RevenueCat (Subscription Management)

We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions. RevenueCat may collect:

- Purchase transaction data

- Anonymous device identifiers (for subscription validation)

- Subscription status and renewal information

RevenueCat does not have access to your writing content. They only process payment and subscription data.

### DeepSeek (Optional AI Service)

If you use cloud-based AI summarization (when Apple Intelligence is unavailable):

- Individual entry text is sent to DeepSeek's API for summarization

- We do not send metadata, timestamps, or any identifying information beyond the text itself

### How We Protect Your Data

**Local Storage Encryption**

- All data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework with iOS system-level encryption

- Your device passcode and biometric authentication protect access to the app and your data

- Data is encrypted at rest on your device

**No Cloud Vulnerability**

- Since we don't sync to the cloud, there's no server to hack or breach

- Your data cannot be compromised in a data breach of our servers (because we don't have servers storing your content)

**Network Transmission**

- The only network transmission occurs when you use cloud-based AI summarization or process subscription purchases

- All network requests use HTTPS encryption

## Your Data Rights

### You Have Complete Control

**Access Your Data**

- All your entries are viewable in the app's archive section

- You can read, edit, or export your entries at any time

**Delete Your Data**

- Delete individual entries by swiping or using the delete button in the app

- Delete all data by uninstalling the app—this removes all locally stored entries permanently

- There are no backups on our servers because we don't have servers storing your content

**Export Your Data**

- You can copy and paste entries to save them elsewhere

- Standard iOS share sheet functionality allows you to export entries as text

**Opt-Out of AI Processing**

- Simply don't use the AI summarization feature

- You can write and journal without ever sending data to AI services

## Children's Privacy

freewrite is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this policy applies equally to all users.

If you believe a child has used the app, no action is required—no personal data has been collected.

## International Users

freewrite is available worldwide. Since all data is stored locally on your device:

- No data crosses borders to our servers (we don't have servers storing your content)

- Your data remains in your jurisdiction

- Local data protection laws apply based on your device location

If you use cloud-based AI summarization (DeepSeek), your text is transmitted to DeepSeek's servers, which may be located outside your country.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.

Significant changes will be communicated through:

- App Store release notes

- In-app notification (if applicable)

Many apps use analytics services to track how you use the app. **We don't.**

We believe your writing practice is private, and we don't need to know:

- How often you write

- What times you write

- How long your sessions are

- What features you use most

The only way we know our app is successful is if you choose to leave a review or tell others about it.
